No wonder Lauryn had so much pain in her songs.
Wendy Williams is known to make her guests comfortable and relaxed, all the while getting to the real scoop. And today she exhibited why she is a staple in the industry.
Today, Wyclef Jean made an appearance on the Wendy Williams show to talk about his book. And boy did he talk. When asked about his failed run for President of Haiti, he explained that he felt that he was ‘bamboozled’ out of the election. He claims that a law was created just to make him ineligible. The law stated that a person would have to have resided in the country for 5 years before running for office. He also claimed that they stated that he never explained his policies, though policies are normally given at the time of nomination. He never got to the nomination.
Wendy went on to ask him about his multi platinum selling group, the Fugees.
According to Wyclef, the Fugees broke up after an affair with Lauryn led to a pregnancy with a baby that he was led to believe is his. He found out that she lied to him about the paternity of her baby, at the hospital, after the birth. He states to Wendy, ‘A man knows if it’s his baby or not. And that was not my baby.’
He hasn’t talked to Lauryn in years, because he’s still heart-broken over it all. He says he doesn’t view the book as a dig at Lauryn. He wanted to get his story out and let the history of the Fugees be a correct account. He felt that after Lauryn album, The MisEducation of Lauryn Hill, painted him in a negative light. He talks about of the way fans responded to the album. He says, ‘People would be like, damn, Clef really broke Lauryn’s heart. But it wasn’t like that. People need to know the truth. Lauryn has 5 kids with that man.’
He tells Wendy that he didn’t let Lauryn know he was writing a book. He surmises, ‘She knows the story’. Though he and Lauryn hasn’t talked or worked together in years, he and Pras are currently in the studio working on new music. He is and his wife are still together and they are happily raising a 7 year old, adopted daughter.
As for Lauryn Hill, I can’t believe she’d do that.
Kinda make you listen to her song Zion, with a different ear.
But we were all young once.
And everyone lies…Sometimes…
