Susan Marie McCarty from Minnesota was summoned to pick up her nephew from a local water park.
Once she arrived, she wasn’t to pleased to have a wet nephew in her Lexus, so she opted to have him ride
…in the trunk.
What a great aunt!
Witnesses said they saw the boy’s sister close the trunk and his grandmother and McCarty climb into the car. When the witnesses didn’t see the boy get back out, they wrote down the car’s license plate number and called the police.
After police stopped her, McCarty admitted to putting the boy in the trunk.
The boy’s sister and grandmother told police that they felt uncomfortable about the boy riding in the trunk but didn’t question McCarty’s decision.
The boy himself was was excited to ride in the trunk, his sister told police, confirming that she closed the trunk once he was inside. She said the back seat console was folded down, leaving a small space so that he could get some air.
McCarty could face up to a year in prison and a $3,000 fine if convicted of child endangerment.
I’m thinking that taking her keys would be a bigger punishment.
