Newark, New Jersey mayor Cory Booker, issued a Twitter challenge that has him living off of $133 a month in food stamps, for one month.
After much back and forth on Twitter, he decided to adhere to the challenge.
The amount of $133 is the amount an average American would receive in food stamps, plus about $75 for each additional dependent.
Fast forward to Wednesday’s broadcast of The Five on Fox Business.
Ms Tantaros was asked by co-host Stuart Varney, during Wednesday’s broadcast of The Five on Fox Business, if she could live on that amount.
She told Fox viewers: ‘I should try it because do you know how fabulous I’d look?
‘I’d be so skinny. I mean, the camera adds ten pounds, it really does.’
Social media lit up with thousands of outraged responses following Ms Tantaros’ off-hand remarks.
One tweet from @imthepain29 read: ‘She can lose lbs but she can’t lose Ugly.’
Another tweeted at the presenter said: ‘Lucky you can diet by choice, not poverty.’
Ms Tantaros hit back on Twitter, posting: ‘It’s amazing how stupid & humorless some liberals can be. I’m asked if I can live on $134/mo in food WHICH I HAVE, and they go crazy Really?’
She later highlighted a Department of Agriculture radio advert that had compared food stamps to a healthy eating plan.
The 33-year-old later added: ‘Food stamps were sold as a fitness plan to “look great” by our liberal, dense government – remember?’
I’m beginning to believe that, Ms Tantaros and the rest of the correspondents on (FAUX)FOXNews are living in an alternate reality that none of us are aware of.
The last time I visited the grocery, (which was yesterday, coincidentally) the store brand cereal is listed for $3.59 for a 17oz box.
The cheapest pack of chicken wings are listed at $10.75.
I’m not sure how Ms Tantaros would feed herself for a month, considering organic foods are priced about 25-35% higher than the regular food items.
I personally spend $133 every two weeks for my family.
Once again, this is a great example of why I rarely see a Republican’s point of view.
The Republicans on (FAUX)FOXNews are out of touch with America.
