Another day, another person shot…
Meet Michael Jock, 52, of St Petersburg, Florida.
Jock is the latest member of ‘The Stand Your Ground Law’ Enforcers.
In St Petersburg, Florida, Jock was standing in line at his local Little Caesars pizzeria, when another customer, Randall White, 49, begin to complain about the slow service.
Jock, clearly upset that anyone would there be smart the Little Caesars name, decided to dole out his own form of pizza lovers’ justice.
As White complained, Jock begin to verbally assault White in his own effort to get White to stop complaining.
The verbal war of words then turned into a pushing match.
But when White decided to turn the pushing match into a punching match, Jock deciding he’d had enough, pulled out his .38 Taurus Ultralight Special Revolver and shot White in the torso.
As two pizza patrons looked on, they began to wrestle for the gun, a second shot was fired and White was hit a second time, in the same spot as the first bullet.
Another shot was fired, this one lodged into one of the restaurant’s wall.
After the shooting, both men went outside and waited for the police.
As soon as the police arrived, Jock began citing the ‘Stand Your Ground’ law.
He claimed that he was in fear of his life. He said that he thought White’s fist contained an object. (I’m sure the only object that White’s fist contained was Pure Power).
Tampa Bay Times reports:
“We determined it did not reach a level where deadly force was required,” police spokesman Mike Puertz said.
Police arrested Jock on charges of aggravated battery with a weapon and shooting within a building. He was released from jail on $20,000 bail.
Jock told the Tampa Bay Times he was meeting with a lawyer today, but declined further comment.
White was treated at Bayfront Medical Center and released. Reached by phone Monday night, he said he felt lucky to be alive. He was also angry.
“There are arguments every day, but how many people pull out a gun? When you pull a gun out and shoot somebody, your life better be in danger,” White said. “He was in my face and I pushed him. His life was not being threatened.”
White said he got mad because his thin-crust vegetable pie was taking longer than the 10 minutes he was promised.
“Twenty minutes later, I’m like, ‘Where’s my pizza?’ ” White said.
White, who admitted he was tired and agitated, started talking about the service. That’s when he said Jock “started chewing me out.”
White said the gun came out quickly. A shot rang out. The two men wrestled for the gun before the second shot was fired.
White said he still has a bullet fragment in his back.
“I got lucky,” he said. “To me, that stand your ground rule … people are twisting it. He’s twisting it. I walked in to get a pizza and I got shot … I’m hoping the law prevails. We’ll see.”
I wonder when will Florida change this law…
Because as long as it’s legal to kill people at will there…I won’t be visiting anytime soon.
