Early Tuesday morning, January 1st, around 5 a.m., a young woman in her 20’s, was still reveling in New Year’s glee, began stumbling around the platform of the 34 Street Pen Station platform.
The station is eight blocks from Times Square, where thousands of revelers gathered to celebrate the coming of the New Year just hours before.
After stumbling for a bit, she then fell onto the tracks of the Number 2 and 3 trains.
According to the New York Daily News, the woman climbed down onto the tracks herself.
A police source told the newspaper that she walked down a flight of service stairs to the track bed about 5:20 a.m.
She then apparently laid down on the tracks at the mouth of the tunnel just as a northbound No. 2 train rolled into the station and struck her.
Emergency crews quickly responded but it the woman was already dead.
NYPD said the investigation was still ongoing but there didn’t appear to be any criminality involved.
I’m not sure what’s going on in New York, but Jesus Christ!!
And though I’m very sorry that someone has died…I need to understand how come this young lady ‘laid down on the tracks‘!!
Whatever she had to drink that night needs to be outlawed!
Plus…Where were her friends? I’m quite sure she didn’t just go to Times Square to party alone…
I’m starting to think that NY should consider a plexiglass partition between the passenger and train…
But make sure the design isn’t one of confinement…That could cause a whole new problem.
Rest In Peace hunni…
