Meet 18 year old, Travis Hawkins from Mobile, Alabama.
This handsome, young gentleman decided to show the family just how big of a bigot he has apparently become, by making Thanksgiving night a MMA Battle of the Sexes.
Alex Hawkins, Travis Hawkins sister, decided to use Thanksgiving as an opportunity to introduce her new girlfriend, Mallory Owens to the family.
Too bad her brother Travis, does not like homosexual relationships. And apparently sharing the same bloodline does not stop Travis from issuing a punishment toward homosexual individuals.
According to reports, Travis attacked Miss Owens after dinner, knocking her down and beating her with his fists.
Miss Owens mother, Kristi Taylor says, ‘He tried to kill her. He’s lucky he didn’t kill her. She’s lucky to be alive. I didn’t recognize her when I got here. It’s hard to look at her like that.’
Miss Owens was hospitalized and treated for broken nose and numerous laceration. Her eyes were swollen shut after the brutal beating and she had to receive facial reconstructive surgery.
Now before you begin to think that Travis will be punished under the hate crime law, let me tell you now that Alabama has no such law written into their books that include sexual orientation among bias offenses, according to the Anti-Defamation League.
Earlier this year, Travis allegedly hit Miss Owens over to hit with a pipe wrench. While she was injured in that attack, no charges were filed.
Miss Owens said, ‘ I did not want her to go, I’m better not to go, knowing how the family felt about her. But she said “They’re trying to be nice.”‘
You see, there was a friction with the Hawkins family over the fact that Alex was gay and Mallory and Alex were in a relationship. Travis most certainly didn’t approve it.
Travis Hawkins was arrested on Sunday and charged with second degree assault, and later released on bond.
Family and supporters of Miss Owens believe that those charges should be much more severe.
And apparently so does others. A Facebook group titled ‘Charge Travis Hawkins Jr with the attempted murder of Mallory Owens’ has popped up on Facebook, and it nearly has 600 likes in less than a day.
Hopefully the prosecutors in this case take notice to the Facebook page and change the laws to address this type of situation.
No one should ever be ridiculed for a lifestyle they live if the lifestyle is between consenting adults.
I hope that Mallory receive all the help, love, and support that she need at this time. I also hope that Alex stays by Mallory’s side and prove that love conquers all.
These girls are a very cute couple.
