I remember growing up during the crack epidemic in the United States. During that time, it was well known in the Black community that the United States government was behind the surge in drugs infiltrating the community. I remember how many of our parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts became addicted to drugs. I can faintly recall a young man that was accepted into Morehouse as a 14 year-old and studied medicine. If my recollection is correct, he became addicted to crack via cocaine at an upscale party. The pain his family suffered from watching crack destroy a mind in such a way, was heart-breaking to witness.
I can also recall that during that time, the Black community was decimated by the crack epidemic. Many were effected by either the burden of a family member that was addicted or a family member that was a dealer. The relentless War on Drugs that was introduced by Ronald Reagan, tore a hole in the Black community’s infrastructure. This gave the police free range to harass and arrest dealers and addicts alike. This, in turn, broke up the Black family. Even now, the victims of this so-called war are still reeling from the affects. Years later we’ve found out that the War on Drugs was actually a War on Black People, according to John Ehrlichman, Richard Nixon’s top aide.
Now we’re witnessing another sect of the United States being effected by drugs. Now that White America is now being effected by opioids, there’s now a sudden shift in America’s thinking, Now America wants to treat the addicts. They wouldn’t dare think of repeating the same drill that was perpetrated on the Black community, which is something I find innately racist. As for the “drug dealers” of the opiates, Big Pharma, they will never see a day in jail. Meanwhile, here in Georgia, a simple gram of marijuana(weed) will get one arrested and possible the lost of one’s job. I find it rather odd that in these mostly majority White populated states that marijuana is not only legal in the state, it’s a way of creating wealth. In other words, Billy in Colorado can become a millionaire on a marijuana crop, meanwhile, Tay Tay in Georgia is arrested and given 120 days and/or fined for 7 grams of marijuana.
Marijuana is illegal only because it’s growth can’t be sanctioned, even with proof that it helps war veterans to pain sufferers, it’s benefits are ignored in order to satisfy the deep pockets of Big Pharma. Anyone with a seed can grow marijuana, but you can’t grow an opiate. Big Pharma has lobbyists all through Washington D.C. making sure that their wares are being pushed, in every way, for profit. This makes Big Pharma is the supplier, Washington D.C. lawmakers are the distributors, and the doctors are the pushers.
I remember when I would smoke marijuana. My mind would open up in ways that were indescribable. I would think in broader terms and would pose unanswerable questions about our current state of affairs here in the United States. Maybe it’s the remnants of marijuana of my past, but I think that maybe the conspiracy against weed is really a conspiracy to maintain a constant flow of customers for Big Pharma. I mean, why else would a person that smokes marijuana be denied a job and in turn a person on opiates can retain one?
