In new claims, Paula Deen has been accused of asking black kitchen workers to wear Aunt Jemima-style outfits while working in the same restaurant that made her a star.

Dora Charles, Deen’s longtime chef, claimed that African American staff were also asked to ring a bell while hollering ‘come and get it’ in a throwback to the past.

Charles also alleged that she was paid a measly $10 an hour and had to endure the TV chef using racist language around her.

Deen has already apologized for her use of the N-word…

Family, friends, and fans of Deen have been very vocal in their support of the Southern Cuisine Queen. But many (me included) are wondering how this new claim will effect her image.

Deen has been dropped by The Food Network along with corporate sponsors like Walmart, Home Depot, pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk and her book publisher.

Charles’ told the New York Times that she wanted to speak up now because she felt that the truth should come out about the woman who she once considered her ‘Soul Sister’.

For 22 years, Mrs. Charles was the queen of the Deen kitchens. She helped open the Lady & Sons, the restaurant here that made Ms. Deen’s career. She developed recipes, trained other cooks and made sure everything down to the collard greens tasted right.

“If it’s a Southern dish,” Ms. Deen once said, “you better not put it out unless it passes this woman’s tongue.”

Charles’ states, ‘It’s just time that everybody knows that Paula Deen don’t treat me the way they  think she treat me’.

Charles met Deen while Deen was running a restaurant in a Best Western hotel when Charles, newly divorced and tired of fast-food kitchens, walked in and auditioned by cooking her version of Southern food. Deen hired her immediately.

Mrs. Charles attended Ms. Deen’s wedding. Sometimes Mrs. Charles appeared on the television shows as part of her day job. She also performed on Ms. Deen’s signature cruises, taking vacation time to do so, though her expenses were paid. She sometimes received clothes and other free goods that came along as Ms. Deen’s star rose.

Mrs. Charles’s family and friends even got jobs with Ms. Deen, including Ineata Jones, whom everyone called Jellyroll. She ended up as close to Ms. Deen as Mrs. Charles was.

Tension between the two ladies began when Deen asked Charles’ to prepare ‘hoecakes’ (my grandma made these…they are pancakes made from cornbread batter and served during dinner) and to ring a dinner bell in front of the restaurant, hollering for people to come and get it.

Dora Charles, a longtime worker for Paula Deen, said Ms. Deen did not treat her fairly, a claim Ms. Deen denies.

“I said, ‘I’m not ringing no bell,’ ” Mrs. Charles said. “That’s a symbol to me of what we used to do back in the day.”

Charles’ cousin Ineata ‘Jellyroll’ Jones took up the offer and her image as Aunt Jemima was sold on postcards in many of the Deen Souvenir Shops.

Florida Man Strangles, Cuts Up, Then Cooks The Family Dog Before Eating It

What’s in the water down there in Florida?

Meet 25 year-old, Thomas Elliot Huggins, of Tampa, Florida.

Hungry enough to eat a dog…And did…

On Thursday, June 27th, in his mother’s home on Astor Avenue North, Huggins strangled the family’s pit bull terrier mix, named Bandit, to death.

But that’s not ALL he did, according to the police reports, Huggins then proceeded to quarter Bandit off into more manageable parts.

After seasoning Bandit’s ribs and putting them on the stove to boil, he then proceeded to throw Bandit’s head in the trash. He placed the rest of the pet in freezer bags and  stored her in the freezer ‘for future meals’.

When Huggins’ mother got home from work, she noticed the ribs boiling on the stove.

After seeing Bandit’s head on the trash, she asked her son what happened.

He told her that he strangled the dog with his bear hands as was cooking the pet for a meal.

Upon hearing her son’s story, she called the cops and turned him in.

Neighbor Nickola Davis said Huggins did not need to kill his dog for food.

“I’ve been to the food pantry, and the mother, I’ve seen her at the food pantry,” Davis said. “So I know they didn’t have to do that for food.”

Authorities charged Huggins with felony cruelty to animals. His bond is set at $2,000 according to arrest records.

There are days I’ve felt hunger so strong that I would’ve considered eating a dog…

But to actually do it?!

First Openly Gay Male American Pro Athlete Outs Himself

And it has happened…

Jason Collins, 34, a center for the Washington Wizards, outed himself in a recent Sports Illustrated interview.

“I’m a 34-year-old NBA center,” Collin wrote in Sports Illustrated story  announcing his sexuality. “I’m black. And I’m gay.

Many have speculated when a male pro athlete would reveal themselves, especially once so many athletes were outspoken against the idea.

The Daily News reports:

“I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major  American team sport,” Collins adds. “But since I am, I’m happy to start the  conversation. I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and  saying, ‘I’m different.’ If I had my way, someone else would have already done  this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.”

Collins, who spent seven seasons with the Nets, says that he decided to come  out of the closet because he was tired of worrying that somebody might suspect  he was gay and was no longer willing to live a dishonest life.

“No one wants to live in fear,” Collins wrote in article he authored with Sports  Illustrated’s Franz Lidz. “I’ve always been scared of saying the wrong thing. I  don’t sleep well. I never have. But each time I tell another person, I feel  stronger and sleep a little more soundly. It takes an enormous amount of energy  to guard such a big secret. I’ve endured years of misery and gone to enormous  lengths to live a lie. I was certain that my world would fall apart if anyone  knew. And yet when I acknowledged my sexuality I felt whole for the first time.  I still had the same sense of humor, I still had the same mannerisms and my  friends still had my back.”

“The strain of hiding my sexuality became almost unbearable in March, when the  U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments for and against same-sex marriage,” he wrote.  “Less then three miles from my apartment, nine jurists argued about my happiness  and my future. Here was my chance to be heard, and I couldn’t say a thing. I  didn’t want to answer questions and draw attention to myself. Not while I was  still playing.”

“I’m a veteran, and I’ve earned the right to be heard,” Collins says. “I’ll lead  by example and show that gay players are no different from straight ones. I’m  not the loudest person in the room, but I’ll speak up when something isn’t  right. And try to make everyone laugh.”

Collins has a very extensive career, though his numbers are not the best.

He played for the New Jersey Nets, Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, and is now playing for the Washington Wizards.

Hmmmm…I wonder will Nike contact him about their ‘openly gay athlete’ offer now?

I for one am for him…

Anyone that has this type of platform and choosing to use themselves as an example, has to be commended…

Women have dealt with gays in the locker room for years so men should pony up and deal with it too…

Gay people have the right to be whatever they want…

Their sexuality has nothing to do with their talents and who they are as people…

Mother Watches Baby’s Father Smother Baby Before Having Sex With Him

Meet Angela Petrov, 21 of the Rogers Park neighborhood, in Cook County Chicago, Illinois.

This fleshy sack of fluid is accused of not being able to control the needs of her groin long enough to be a nurturing parent for at least an hour.

On April 11th, Petrov and the baby’s father Rodrigo Rodriguez were drinking Hennessy in their West Rogers Park apartment on Thursday night  while Angelina was sleeping.

As Rodriguez gazed into Petrov’s eyes, lust began to encase his being.

He moved over to caress and hold Petrov, five-month-old Angelina Rodriguez began to cry from another room.

Petrov first tried quieting Baby Angelina with a bottle.

Baby Angelina didn’t settle down, which is when Rodriguez took her from her mother and put his  hand over the baby’s mouth until she stopped crying.

He did this numerous times as Baby Angelina continued  to sob and gasp for air. Petrov just sat in the room and watched Rodriguez.

It was  third time that Rodriguez covered his daughter’s mouth, the baby went limp.

After smothering the baby unconscious, the couple then put the  girl in her playpen, had sex and went to sleep.

At around 7 a.m., Petrov woke up to get an older  child ready for school and then went back to sleep.

There are three children in the home, two of  which were fathered by Rodriquez.

At about 11 a.m., Rodriquez and Petrov got up  and noticed the baby was ‘stiff and unresponsive’ in the playpen.

The couple tried throwing water on the baby’s  face to wake her and performed CPR before Petrov called 911.

The Daily Mail reports:

Angelina was taken Saint Francis Hospital and  then transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where she is on life support.

Doctors say the baby suffered brain  swelling  and a ‘blown pupil’ due to a lack of oxygen and she currently  has limited or no  brain activity, Buck said.

Doctors also noted that the baby had a skull  fracture from a previous incident, prosecutors said. Rodriguez  and Petrov were arrested late on Friday.

Illinois Department of Children and Family  Services spokesman Dave Clarkin said  the agency is investigating both Rodriguez  and Petrov for neglect and  abuse. The couple’s other children have been placed  with a family  member, Clarkin said.

Rodriguez and Petrov were already under  investigation for allegations of abuse involving another child on January 29,  Clarkin said. That probe is still pending.

Rodriguez’s mother, Crucita Rivera, insisted  her son, who she said has bipolar disorder, ‘would never smother a child.’  Rivera, 56, said she had previously offered to take care of the couple’s three  children.

Buck said Rodriguez eventually admitted to  officers that he put his hand over his daughter’s mouth repeatedly and Petrov  allegedly told police that she sat in a chair and watched him do it.

Cook County Judge James Brown ordered both  parents held in lieu of $5 million bail on Sunday.

Like a said…Calling her a bitch isn’t even a word that would suffice..Because even dogs would give their lives for their young…

Homeless Man Sets 63 Year Old Man Ablaze For Refusing To Extend Charity

Imagine this if you will…

You are leaving a convenience store…

A homeless man/woman asks you if you have a couple of dollars to spare…

You have just spent your last dollar and you tell him, ‘I’m sorry but I can’t’…

You turn your back and *poof*, you’re on fire…

Well that’s what happened to a 63 year-old Long Beach, California resident Friday night…

Meet 38 year-old A**hole of the Week, Raymond Sean Clark, also of Long Beach, California.

Around 5:08pm April his local transient was panhandling at the local 7-Eleven on the 5100 block Pacific Coast Highway and Clark Avenue in Long Beach.

At the same time, 63 year-old Jerry Arnold Payne, who lived a few blocks away on Anaheim Place, often frequented the store and was known to help out the homeless, was leaving the 7-Eleven.

As Payne walked pass the Clark, the transient asked the 63 year-old for some spare change. The 63 year-old told Clark he couldn’t spare any change and proceeded to get into his SUV.

Apparently Clark saw this as some form of disrespect, because Clark proceeded to enforce his own form of ‘street’ justice by throwing a flammable liquid into the SUV and set it aflame.

Shocked, Payne leapt from the SUV as bystanders ran to help douse the flames.

After running from the 7-11 near Pacific Coast Highway, a 39-year-old man known by many in the area to be homeless was arrested in connection with the attack.

Witnesses used fire extinguishers and water bottles to help extinguish the flames, which consumed the victim as he stumbled from the SUV.

A white sedan was parked next to the SUV. The driver of that car was inside the 7-11 getting a cup of coffee when his car also caught fire.

Steve Cox said he gave spare change to the alleged attacker minutes before the fire.

“He didn’t seem like he was going to harm anybody. He wasn’t very aggressive or anything. I mean, asking for change, he seemed like a nice guy,” Cox said. “I’m really surprised about what happened. It’s outrageous.”

Outrageous doesn’t even begin to describe this one!

This is one of those times that I wish that the US had an ‘Eye for an Eye’ justice system…

With so much evil happening in  the world, we can’t afford to be scared of the homeless too!

Payne is currently being treated at Torrance Memorial Hospital, which specializes in treating burn patients. His condition is described as critical.

Clark is being held on a $502,200 bail under charges of attempted murder and two misdemeanor failure to appear warrants.

Georgia Teen Hangs Himself After Being Bullied Relentlessly

This story truly breaks my heart.

Meet 13 year old Devin Brown of  Georgia.

13 year old Devin Brown was bullied to death.

This handsome young man loves martial arts fighting and had dreams of one day going to culinary school.

Around six(6) months ago, Devin went to go live with his father Ray Brown in the city of Columbus and began attending Rothschild Middle School.

But in November of 2012, Devin became the target of bullies.

“He came home one time and had some peanut butter pies he had made for school,” says Devin’s father Ray Brown. “When he walked through the door he had some pie left and he had it all over him. Someone had jumped on him and smeared it all over him. But he never wanted to talk about that. We talked to the school, they said we haven’t heard anything about it and just let it go.”

But something that happened at school last week became the final straw for Devin.

Devin saw a girl at school with a butcher knife threatening to stab a teacher. He told his teacher and the girl was taken into custody.

This didn’t fair well with some students.

Devin was quickly targeted for more bullying and called a snitch.

But it wasn’t until last March 28th, Thursday night that Devin’s family realized how far the bullying had gone.

That night, Devin’s stepmother realized Devin wasn’t in his bed and called his older sister.

Cara Downs, Devin’s older sister states that she started walking through the house to help find her brother, when she heard her stepmother screaming, ‘Oh my God, Ray, Ray, help me! I can’t get him down, he hung himself!’

Devin was inside his closet with a belt around his neck.

“I could see the black and blue around his neck and I tried to find a pulse, but couldn’t find it,” says Brown.

Devin did not leave a note, but Brown says his son confided in friends earlier that day. “He told them but the kids didn’t think he meant anything that they thought he just blowing off steam.”

Brown believes being called a “snitch” at school pushed Devin over the edge.

Muscogee County School District’s director of communications told NBC News she could not confirm there was threat to a teacher, but she said a knife was found.

“It was discovered upon search in the student’s locker. And of course any student discipline, while I can’t talk about particular student discipline, was handled according to policy,” Valerie Fuller said.

At his funeral on Wednesday, a large wooden box with the word “hero” carved on it was set up. Devin’s friends dropped notes into it, thanking him for speaking up about the threat he saw at school, reported WLTZ.

“I made this for him because he is my hero. He did the right thing and he knew he did the right thing,” Brown told the affiliate.

On Devin’s gravestone, the inscription read: “You left too soon, but forever wouldn’t have been long enough. Our hero – Devin Brown.”

And many babies are beginning to suffer because of it…

This practice has left two infants infected with a  deadly herpes virus in the last three months after undergoing a controversial  religious oral circumcision in New York City.

The latest cases bring the count to 13  infants since 2000, two of which suffered brain damage and two died from the  virus which can rapidly spread throughout its body.

ABC News reports:

One of the two infected babies developed a fever and lesion on its scrotum seven days after the circumcision, and tests for HSV-1 were positive, according to the health department.

The health department had issued alerts about the two latest cases — on in January and one in March — to urge all medical providers and laboratory staff to inquire about “direct oral suction” during a circumcision when evaluating newborn males for sepsis and to consider herpes.

“A herpes infection in a newborn baby has the risk of leading to severe illness and death,” said Varma. “The reason is that the baby doesn’t have the same fully developed immune system as an adult. Instead of staying in the genital area, it extends throughout different organs in the body.”

The practice seems unwarranted, risky, dangerous, and borders on pedophilia.

The more than 5,000-year-old religious practice of circumcision is performed during a Jewish religious ceremony known as the bris, which is observed by Jews of all denominations around the world.

But not all people of the Jewish faith practice this ritual.

The modern Jewish community uses a sterile aspiration device or pipette to clean the wound in a circumcision. About two-thirds of boys born in New York City’s Hasidic communities are circumcised in the oral suction manner, according to Rabbi David Zwiebel, executive vice president of Agudath Israel of America.

In 2003 and 2004, three babies, including a set of twins, were infected with Type 1 herpes; the cases were linked to circumcision, and one boy died. Another died in 2010. In the last decade, 13 babies in the city have contracted the virus, and two have had brain damage, according to health officials. All were circumcised by the metzitzah b’peh method.

Shots Fired…Literally! Rick Ross Wrecks Rolls Royce After Shots Fired

Well, well, well…

Here’s some interesting news.

It seems popular rapper Rick Ross was involved in an appearance assassination attempt.

Washington Post reports that Rick Ross and his companion, fashion designer Shateria L. Moragne-el, were leaving a studio in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida  around 5 a.m. this morning (January 28, 2013).

As they were driving, Ross and his companion heard gunshots being fired in their direction.

Upon hearing the gunshots, police say Rick Ross lost control of his silver Rolls Royce and crashed into an apartment building.

Ross nor his companion were hurt, and the Rolls wasn’t hit by  bullets either.

The police report uses Ross’s real name, William L. Roberts. Ross turned 37 years old Monday.

Authorities say unknown suspects fled before police arrived. TV news footage showed a bullet hole in the window of a nearby restaurant.

Father’s Negligence Causes Son’s Blindness

As a student, mother, and blogger, my days are certainly full of adventure.

Sometimes when I take a break from the day, I like to relax and read the national news.

Some stories are mundane…But some stories leaves me in a whirlwind of emotions, questions, and increased fear.

But then there are those stories that make you want to scream.

Like this one.

Meet Reeco Dudley, 26, of Harlem, New York.

This young, aspiring rapper of a group called ‘The Gents’, and father of a six week-old baby, is now in the custody of New York officials, charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was charged Thursday and he was held on $50,000 bail Friday.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Let’s start from the beginning…

On Saturday, December 1st of 2012, Recco was bathing his son Royalty, getting him ready for bed.

After bathing him, Recco claims that somehow Baby Royalty slipped from his grasp and fell.

During the fall, Baby Royalty’s head became lodged between the bed, crib, and wall.

For three days, Baby Royalty cried in pain.

But no one could’ve guessed how MUCH pain Baby Royalty was enduring.

On the third day, Recco finally took Baby Royalty to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where doctors said Royalty was suffering from a fractured skull, bleeding in the brain, three fractured ribs and retinal hemorrhaging — an injury that left the boy permanently blind.

According to family members, Baby Royalty is still in the hospital today.

The Daily News reports:

Dudley’s family said the father of two would never hurt his child. Cousin Roger Rawson said he was stunned by the allegations.

“This is all based on a statement that he made that maybe he dropped the baby,” said Rawson, holding up a picture of Dudley and Royalty taken at the hospital two weeks ago. “Why would they let him hold and kiss his child if he had done this?”

1) What type of fall could cause injuries such as these? (a fractured skull, bleeding in the brain, three fractured ribs and retinal hemorrhaging)

4) Who would let their baby cry continuously for one day, let alone three days?

5) Who will get custody of Baby Royalty?

Male Nurse Arrested For Having Sex With Corpse

Here’s a story that’ll make you really re-think hospital stays altogether.

There’s a male nurse who works at Sherman Oaks Hospital that got caught slow stroking having sex someone’s deceased relative.

A male nurse has been accused of committing a sex act on a corpse at Sherman Oaks Hospital

A 61 year-old male nurse named Alejandro Lazo was caught by security guards, in the act, at the Sherman Oaks Hospital, Sunday night.

He is free on $20,000 bail and is due in court on Feb. 11, according to online records.

The L.A. County coroner will perform an autopsy on the body, police said. The findings could determine if more charges will be filed.

The coroner’s office declined further comment on the case, citing a security hold.

Mr Lazo has a wife and two children.
