The Devil comes in many forms, and it is being proven today in a New York court room.
A child rape case involving a prominent Rabbi of the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish faith, is being accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.
Nechemya Weberman is accused of fondling the young girl and forcing her to perform oral sex on him over the course of many years beginning when she was just 12 years old.
Prosecutors say the girl’s parents sent their daughter to the Rabbi for counseling because they felt that she was beginning to show rebellion.
What was her ‘show of rebellion’, you ask?
Her show rebellion was, breaking several rules of the strict Satmar Hasidic sect, including reading magazines like Cosmopolitan and People and wearing stockings that were too thin.
Rabbi Weberman, a well respected leader of the small community, was supposed to be re-indoctrinating the girl and bringing her back to the ultra-conservative standards of the community after she was branded a ‘heretic’.
It seems that Weberman had his own version of re-indoctrinating lost souls. Instead of counseling the young girl, she told a counselor years later, he was abusing her.
Assistant District Attorney Kevin O’Donnell said, ‘When you think about it, the parents were actually paying the defendant to have sex their daughter’. O’Donnell also added that Weberman abused the young girl, now age 17, over and over and over again.
The Rabbi’s lawyers obviously deny the allegations. They say that the girl made up the story to retaliate against Weberman.
But we all know that the accused always deny the accusation.
They are saying that the girl went to the police only after Weberman and her parents, set up a hidden camera to secretly record the girl having sex with her boyfriend when she was still under age.
And with that, Weberman turned the tapes over to the police in hopes that the boyfriend would be prosecuted.
Is it me, or is it odd that the rabbi kept the tapes?
The charges against the boy friend were later dropped.
Weberman is charged with 88 counts of sexual assault.
The Satmar Hasidic community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, has rallied around the Rabbi, sponsoring fundraisers to pay for his legal defense.
The girl in this case has to be completely traumatized.
It seems unfair that the community with rally around the accused, and not the victim.
If only the parents were put their faith in their God and in themselves, this situation would not have gotten this far. Things like this are happening every day, because people are choosing to let other people influence their parenting.
Just because someone wear’s the collar of a holy man, does not mean his soul is holy. In the end we are all human. We all make mistakes. But some mistakes are unforgivable.
I am sure that the young lady may have made some mistakes. But there is nothing that she could have done that would have justified this man abusing her.
I don’t want to jump to conclusions. I have seen cases where people are accused, and found not guilty.
So we shall sit back and watch this trial. Everything done in the dark will come to the light.
The lesson to learn from this…
Trust no one but yourself…
